Ciara's Birthday Marathon: Five Parties ... And Counting

Ciara's Birthday Marathon: Five Parties ... And Counting
Ciara's party train kept right on rolling Monday night, as the R&B star celebrated her 22nd birthday at South Beach's Cameo nightclub. The bash – complete with a sparkler-topped chocolate cake and a bottle of Cristal – came on top of previous fetes in Washington, D.C., Atlanta and New York (where she held two separate soirées). So what's with all the repeat performances?

"I missed my 21st birthday [because] I was on tour promoting my album," she told PEOPLE. "Since I didn't get to celebrate turning 21, I'm celebrating exiting 21."

And she's not done yet. The singer – who broke up with singer Bow Wow last year and recently denied rumors of romance with 50 Cent – jets to the Bahamas today for two more nights of revelry. "At first I said only five parties, but it somehow turned

Ciara Says She's 'Great Friends' with 50 Cent

They may appear in a steamy music video for her single "Can't Leave 'Em Alone," but don't get the wrong idea: Ciara and 50 cent are, as she puts it, "good friends, absolutely."

"He's a really great friend, and great friends think of really great [birthday presents]," Ciara told PEOPLE at her 22nd birthday party at Manhattan's Nikki Midtown on Thursday night, though she wouldn't reveal what he gave her. "For some reason, with this friend, everybody turns everything into something else!"

And while she's the first to admit that 50 has "a very, very nice body," she laughs at all the rumors she's heard about her so-called romance. "They said we have a ranch in Atlanta. I just died laughing," she said. "They said I cursed him out (for having a Ciara lookalike on his album cover) and that he cried on my shoulder (over the Kanye West rivalry). It's amazing to hear the things people make up. It's funny."

No doubt that dating as a celebrity can be tough – "You want to go out like normal people but you can't. If you do, automatically you're together or messing around," Ciara confesses. But, she adds, she knows what she wants in a man.

"Confidence is really important to me, and someone that has goals" she said, adding that she doesn't have to end up with someone famous, but she prefers "to date someone who understands what I do. Just be understanding of this lifestyle and me working a lot. That's all that matters!"

As for Ciara's goals, she's heading to Europe for a few days to tour with pal Rihanna.

Singer Ciara Says Dating Is Tough

Singer Ciara Says Dating Is Tough
She's young, talented and famous, but Ciara says that doesn't necessarily mean that dating is easy.

"It's definitely tough at times," the "Like a Boy" singer, 21, tells PEOPLE. "I'm now past my year mark of being single, and I've got to say I'm a big fan of love. Being in a relationship is one of the most beautiful things, and I'm looking forward to being in a relationship."

At the same time, Ciara – who dated rapper Bow Wow for a year before they split in April 2006 – says she's in no rush to get back into something serious.

"I'm also at a place where I want to be patient and do it right," she says. "I'm one of those girls that when I date, I date to marry, so I like to take my time and really get to know a person. I do meet people and run across people, but it's all about building a friendship."

So what does she want in a potential mate? "I look for someone who is down to earth, has a great personality and is respectful – someone who just loves to have fun and has goals," she says.

Ciara is set to accomplish a goal of her own when she directs her first music video: She's participating in Glamour magazine's Reel Music Project, which supports emerging female recording artists. Fans can log on to Glamalert.com and listen to music by singers Tiffany Evans, Paula Campbell and Samantha Jade and then vote on their favorite. Ciara will direct the debut video of the singer with the most votes.

"This is my chance to direct my first video, and it's such a cool opportunity," Ciara says of the project. "It's all about embracing the women in this industry."

She also sees it as a chance to be a mentor and set an example for young girls. "Your voice is so powerful as an artist and as an entertainer. It's important to use that," she says. "I love to share the wisdom that I gain as I grow, and I also love to learn myself. I just feel like it's a role of responsibility to be the one out of a million that is put in this position."

Ciara also will be making her film debut in "Mama, I Want to Sing!," based on the off-Broadway musical. It starts filming next month.
